This year's Nobel prizes are to be awarded between October 2 and 13, DPA QUOTED the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm as saying Friday. The Royal Swedish Academy for Sciences plans to award the first prize for medicine on October 2, followed by the physics prize on October 3 and the chemistry prize on October 4. The academy plans to award the controversial economic sciences prize on October 9. The academy, which is also responsible for awarding the prize for literature, does not consider the "Sveriges Riksbank Economic Sciences Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel" to be a real Nobel prize and has been campaigning to have it removed for years. The other prizes have been awarded since 1901 and were founded by Nobel (1833-1896), who was the inventor of dynamite. The date when the literature prize is to be awarded was not announced Friday. Traditionally, the literature prize is given on a Thursday, and the academy only announces when it will be awarded a few days in advance. The last Nobel prize of 2006, the peace prize, was due to be announced on Friday, October 13 in Oslo, the Nobel Foundation said. Last year the peace prize was taken jointly by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its director general Dr Mohamed ElBaradei. All six Nobel prizes come with a cash award of 10 million kronor1.4 million dollars) each. For each subject there can be up to three prize winners.
