An Omni Air International plane bound for Frankfurt with 324 passengers made a safe emergency landing in Romania early on Thursday after reporting smoke aboard, an airport official said. "The flight was forced to land ... following a smoke signal in the passenger cabin," Bucharest airport spokesman Valentin Iordache told Reuters. He said passengers were evacuated from the plane, which had to go through checks. The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 later took off to continue to Frankfurt. Iordache said he was not sure where the flight number N810AX had come from but local media reported it had taken off from Kuwait. U.S.-based Omni Air International provides chartered passenger services for tour operators, the U.S. government and other airlines.
