At least 20 people were killed in a blaze at a fireworks factory in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, PTI newsagency reported. A further 15 people injured in the fire were rushed to hospital, dpa reported. The fire started in the Vadivel Fireworks Factory, near Sivakasi, a city 580 kilometres south of the state capital Madras. The victims were all factory workers. Sivakasi is famous for its matches and fireworks industry and is known as India's fireworks workshop. Some 400 units are located in and around the city, which accounts for 80 per cent of the fireworks manufactured in India. --SP 2002 Local Time 1702 GMT
