U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Christina Rocca met Thursday with Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri and was to hold talks later in the day with President Gen. Pervez Musharraf. Rocca, who arrived Wednesday, hailed Pakistan's cooperation with the United States in its war on terrorism, and promised continued close economic and security ties. The Associated Press said Pakistani officials on Wednesday raised the issue of the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran in a military prison at Guantanamo Bay, with Rocca, who said that disgracing any religion's leaders or holy books is against U.S. policy.
