A bomb exploded Thursday on a road in eastern Afghanistan as a Dutch army vehicle was driving along it, slightly wounding two soldiers, Afghan police said. A spokeswoman for the International Security Assistance Force, Lt. Col. Karen Tissot Van Patot, confirmed there had been an "incident" in Baghlan province. She said two soldiers had been injured and were in a stable condition. She gave no other details, including the nationality of the troops involved. Fazil Uddin Ayar, chief of police for Baghlan province, said a remote-controlled bomb exploded as the Dutch vehicle drove by. He said the two soldiers were lightly wounded. About five suspects had been arrested, he said. A purported Taliban spokesman, Mullah Latif Hakimi, claimed responsibility for the attack in a telephone call to The Associated Press. His claim could not be verified.
