Polish Interior Minister Ryszard Kalisz offered to step down on Monday after a series of media reports alleging wrongdoing and high-level corruption in the police force, Reuters reported. "Interior Minister Ryszard Kalisz has tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Marek Belka," the Interior Ministry said in a statement. Kalisz, an influential member of the ruling minority Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), met Belka on Monday. A statement from Belka's office said he would decide on any changes to interior ministry personnel within two days. He has the right to reject Kalisz's resignation. Three ministers have already quit the government this year while another had his resignation rejected. Belka himself tendered his resignation earlier this month after Poland's parliament voted against dissolving itself -- which would have triggered the early elections Belka favours -- but it was rejected by President Aleksander Kwasniewski. Elections are now set for September 25, with the SLD expected to lose badly. --More 2205 Local Time 1905 GMT
