Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka warned on Monday he was ready to put his government's future on the line to defend his economy minister who may face a no confidence vote in parliament. Jerzy Hausner, author of the EU newcomer's fiscal reforms, quit the ruling Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) party this month to help form a new centrist grouping ahead of a general election later this year. This prompted calls from SLD members that he resign from his job. SLD leader Jozef Oleksy said the party would not seek a no confidence vote to oust Hausner, but two opposition parties have already begun work on a motion. Belka said such a vote would amount to a no confidence vote in his whole government. "I am not at all considering the possibility of dismissing (minister) Hausner for being engaged in building a new centrist political group," Belka told a news conference. "I cannot imagine a vote of no confidence in him for this reason, and I would be inclined to treat such a vote as a vote of no confidence in the entire government," Belka said. --More 2245 Local Time 1945 GMT
