At least 30 people were killed and 27 injured on Saturday when a bus plunged into a river in the Peruvian Andes, police said. Poor weather conditions and human error were believed to have caused the accident, near the town of Jauja, northeast of Lima, said one police officer who declined to be named. Police and firefighters were transferring the injured and recovering the bodies. They said more victims could have been washed away by the river. "Some of the injured passengers said the bus was going fast and the road was wet. We can't rule out the fact that the driver may have fallen asleep," the police officer told Reuters.
