Suspected rebels exploded a grenade outside a school in India's portion of Kashmir on Thursday, wounding more than 25 civilians, most of them schoolchildren and their parents, police said. The grenade, which was apparently thrown at a passing vehicle of India's Border Security Force, missed its target and exploded outside the school in central Srinagar, The Associated Press quoted police officer Mohammed Hasib as saying. The explosion occurred just as hundreds of children were leaving the school, with dozens of parents waiting outside. Most of the wounded were schoolchildren, who were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, Hasib said. It was not immediately clear if any of the wounded were in critical condition, he said. There was chaos at the scene of the explosion as students fled and terrified parents ran around looking for their children. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
