Jordanian Prime Minister Adnan Badran is scheduled to visit Damascus Monday, an official statement carried by dpa said here on Sunday. Badran is due to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to relay a message from Jordan's King Abdullah. He is also expected to hold talks with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Etari on "ways for boosting bilateral ties" and "Arab and regional issues of mutual interest". Badran, who was appointed by King Abdullah as the new prime minister in early April, was assigned the main task of improving ties with neighbouring Arab states, particularly Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. Local newspapers quoted the prime minister as saying Saturday that he planned to visit Beirut shortly. He also invited Iraq's new Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari to visit Jordan for talks on bolstering bilateral relations. --SP 2310 Local Time 2010 GMT
