A strong undersea earthquake hit near the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Sunday, causing people to flee their homes in fear of a pending tsunami, seismologists said. No damage was reported, and the 6.8-magnitude temblor was not strong enough to cause a tsunami, meteorologists said. The quake's epicenter was about 120 kilometers (74 miles) southwest of Padang, a city in western Sumatra, the Hong Kong Observatory said. The quake was recorded at 1035 GMT, it said.
