At least 16 people were killed in Afghanistan Wednesday when a U.S. military helicopter crashed in the southern province of Ghazni, the U.S. military reported. "We can confirm that there were at least 16 fatalities in the crash," spokeswoman for the U.S-led military coalition Lieutenant Cindy Moore told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Moore declined to disclose how many of them were Americans, adding that military personnel had been dispatched to the crash site. Moore had said earlier that initial statements from the U.S. military indicated that all passengers and crew had been killed. It was not immediately clear how many had been aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash, which was blamed on severe weather. The CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon near Ghazni, roughly 100 miles southwest of Kabul. --More 2234 Local Time 1934 GMT
