Firefighters pulled 10 more bodies from the burnt-out wreck of a ship in Ghana's main port of Tema on Saturday, bringing the death toll from Friday's blaze to at least 13, rescue workers and officials said. Three bodies had already been recovered from the Greek vessel on Friday but emergency services called off the search because the heat from its metal hull was still too intense hours after the flames were extinguished. "We don't know if there are more inside. We can only tell after we have drained water out of the hold. There is a lot of water in there," Ben Owusu-Mensah, director-general of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, said. Relatives waited outside the port gates for family members who went to work on Friday but never returned as rescue workers lifted body bags into waiting ambulances. Smoke was still wafting from the MV Polaris, which was docked at Tema for repairs when it caught fire. Burnt machinery littered the quayside and black debris floated on the water as shipyard workers began the cleanup operation. "Those bodies that were found were charred beyond recognition. There may be one or two that we might be able to identify," said one firefighter on the quayside. Police have said initial reports suggest the fire started when a spark from a blowtorch set light to oil leaking from a pipeline. --More 2131 Local Time 1831 GMT
