Eight people were killed and five seriously injured in a road accident involving a minibus taxi in South Africa on Wednesday, police said. The minibus was travelling between the towns of Richmond and Three Sisters in the country's Northern Cape province when it overturned, police captain Tony Modise told the Sapa news agency. Eight occupants, including six girls reportedly en route to a sporting event, died at the scene while five others, also schoolgirls were taken to hospital. The accident came as transport authorities began warning motorists to drive safely over the Easter holiday season that generally sees a sharp rise in road fatalities around the country.
