U.S. President George W. Bush intends to name Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz as his pick to lead the World Bank, the CNN television news network reported Wednesday. Wolfowitz, 61, was a strong supporter of the war in Iraq and is considered a neoconservative. While the nomination would require confirmation from the World Bank's member countries, traditionally the United States has been granted the privilege of deciding who will lead the World Bank. Wolfowitz would replace James Wolfensohn, 71, who announced in January that he would leave the bank at the end of his term on May 31. --SP 1836 Local Time 1536 GMT
