Secretary General of Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Professor Akmaluddin Ihsan Oghli has reiterated the readiness of the OIC to activate negotiations between the Sudanese Government and rebels in the Province of Darfur. In a telephone conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Isma'il, Akmaluddin said he is planning to send a delegation from the OIC's Secretariat General to the Presidency of the African Union, and to conduct contacts with the conflicting parties in Darfur Province for accelerating the political process and removing obstacles that impede resumption of negotiations. Akmaluddin reiterated the readiness of the OIC's member states to work for enhancing the pillars of peace and stability in Darfur and to positively contribute to the reconstruction of the Province.
