Minister of Agriculture Dr Fahd Balghunaim inaugurated here today the Second Seminar on the Saudi Agriculture: 'Opportunities and Challenges', organized by the Saudi Society for Agricultural Sciences. Addressing the seminar, Balghunaim highlighted the achievements attained by the agricultural sector in the Kingdom, and said the value of the agricultural product increased from only SR 990 million in 1970 to SR 38 billion in 2004. He noted that the agricultural sector has created 582,000 job opportunities, and more than 48 percent of these jobs are occupied by Saudis. Dr Balghunaim said the Kingdom has been doing its best to develop the agricultural sector through conducting further studies and preparation of ambitious plans like 'The Future Plan of Agriculture in the Kingdom', prepared in cooperation with Prince Abdullah Institute for Research and Consultative Studies at King Saud University.
