The major German share index was relatively unchanged as trading began Friday on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The benchmark 30-share DAX gained 0.46 per cent to 4,362 points in the opening minutes of trading, with the 70-share mid-caps index MDAX up a tiny 0.03 per cent to 5,702 points. The technology index TecDAX rose 0.16 per cent to 536 points. The euro was firmer in early European trading, with a quotation of 1.2875 dollars or 77.63 euro-cents per dollar. The quote was nearly a full cent above the 1.2777 dollars reference rate set Thursday by the European Central Bank. Traders said business so far had been quiet, with exchanges in Japan and Hong Kong closed for national holidays.
