Saudi Minister of Commerce & Industry Dr Hashem bin Abdullah Yamani and Pakistan's Commerce Minister Hamayun Akhtar Tuesday agreed to study complementarities in the two economies so that the business community may be encouraged to invest in the appropriate sectors. Dr Yamani, who arrived in Pakistan on Monday to attend a meeting of the Saudi-Pakistani Joint Ministerial Committee, met Akthar in the latter's office, an official statement said. High-ranking Saudi officials accompanied Dr Yamani. Pakistan's Minister of State for Commerce Hamid Yar Hiraj was also present at the meeting. The two sides discussed bilateral trade, investment cooperation and various aspects of human resource development. The statement said Dr Yamani showed interest in investing in telecom, information technology, power generation, hydel power projects, housing, livestock, food processing, floriculture, agriculture and dairy farming in Pakistan. He expressed his keen interest in joint ventures with Pakistani businessmen in these areas. Akthar apprised Dr Yamani of the overall condition of Pakistan's economy and trade, and the economic reforms undertaken by the government of Pakistan in the recent years.
