Secretary General of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul-Rahman Al-Atiyyah has reiterated the support of the GCC states to Syria's stance vis-à-vis the peace process in the Middle East. In a statement published here on Monday, Al-Atiyyah said the GCC states do support any step that might be taken by Syria to enhance pillars of security and stability in the region. "Despite the efforts exerted by Syria to revive the peace process in the region, Israel has never shown a positive response towards the Syrian initiative," he said, adding that it is high time for Israel to practically respond to the Syrian initiative for bringing about peace in the region. The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
