German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder spoke Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the possibility of new elections in Ukraine, and both agreed any results should be respected, Schroeder's spokesman said. Putin and Schroeder talked by telephone "in particular about the question of how one finds a political solution that takes into account the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the need for dialogue between both parties," spokesman Bela Anda said in a statement. "The German chancellor and the Russian president both agreed that the result of a new election that is conducted on the basis of the Ukrainian constitution and reflects the political will of the Ukrainian people should be strictly respected," Anda said.
