The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Education, participated in the celebration of the Arab Literacy Day, which falls on Friday, the January 08, 2021. The Ministry of Education implemented 1,142 e-training programs, benefiting more than 29,000 individuals, and adopted Jubail Industrial City as a Saudi education city within the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. During the novel Coronavirus pandemic, the Education Ministry implemented a number of programs and initiatives by launching the Continuing Education (Ein Education Channels), developing standards for elementary school curricula and the Literacy Society Program curricula, and updating the regulatory framework for the summer campaigns program to raise awareness and eradicating illiteracy. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for educational programs Dr. Maha Abdullah Al-Suleiman emphasized that the Kingdom's participation with the Arab countries in celebrating the Arab Literacy Day comes to eradicate all types of illiteracy, and to focus on literacy to renew commitment to fighting this phenomenon and reducing its negative effects on the lives of individuals and by working to secure quality learning opportunities to enable literacy and numeracy skills, and to use modern technologies to access open knowledge resources, in accordance with the Kingdom's 2030 Vision.
