RIYADH: Illiteracy among girls, which currently stands at 13 percent, will be eradicated in 10 years' time, according to Noura Al-Fayez, Deputy Minister of Education for Girls' Affairs. She made the comment on the occasion of Arab Literacy Day which was observed all over the Kingdom Tuesday. Al-Fayez pointed out that the ministry has no intention to create permanent jobs for female adult literacy teachers. She said that the literacy project is temporary and will end with the eradication of illiteracy. She said the ministry has nothing to do with employment because this was the responsibility of the Ministry of Civil Service. If the ministry has vacancies for female teachers in general education, then adult literacy education teachers can apply for such jobs, she said. She said the heavy downpour which lashed Riyadh Tuesday did not prevent the ministry from observing Arab Literacy Day. She also launched the ministry's website on adult literacy.
