A landmine explosion killed two people and wounded four others in the central Uruzgan province, Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported on Wednesday. The provincial governor Jan Muhammad confirmed Tuesday's incident to AIP when the car of the deputy chief of Char Chino district, Abdul Manan, hit a landmine in Yakhdan area. Manan and his guard were killed instantly while four other guards were critically wounded. The spokesman of the radical Taliban, Mufti Latifullah Hakmi, claimed the responsibility, but said four were killed in the attack. Taliban rebels have been carrying out similar attacks in the past in Char Chino district, targeting government officials and foreign troops based in the area.
