Afghan police Tuesday killed a suspect Taliban and arrested a senior militia leader in an encounter with the rebels in southern Zabul province, Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) said. The incident occurred early in the day in Meezan district, about 48 kilometers northwest of provincial capital Qalat when a group of 30 Taliban clashed with the police and wounded one official. The rebels used rocket launchers and small arms in the fight that lasted over 90 minutes, district officer Rehmatullah (one name) told reporters in Qalat. The assailants managed to flee after the attack. "One Taliban fighter was killed and we have also arrested an important commander, Mullah Shah Wali," he was quoted as saying by the AIP. The police has also seized three rocket launchers, klashnikov assault rifles, a satellite phone and a motorcycle.
