TOKYO - The Nikkei average closed up, led by gains in Nippon Steel Corp. and its rivals after data showing only a minor slowdown in China's robust economic growth eased concerns about a sudden downturn in one of Japan's biggest export markets. The Nikkei closed up 0.63 percent or 67.90 points to 10,857.13, falling 125.82 from October 15. HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Stock Market was closed today for the Chung Yeung Festival Holiday. On Thursday the Hang Seng Index closed up 0.12 percent or 16.07 points to 13,015.20, a fall of 44.23 from last Friday. SYDNEY - Australian stocks closed higher, underpinned by global mining giants BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto, and ended the week flat. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 ended up four points or 0.11 percent to 3,709.9, down over the week by 10.6. JOHANNESBURG - South African stocks were volatile tracking a strong but see-sawing rand, ending almost flat with AngloGold Ashanti losing most ground. The All-share index closed at 11,647.15 points, down 8.7 or 0.07 percent, falling 187.67 points from last Friday.
