A police patrol in Baqouba was ambushed overnight, injuring nine people, Iraqi police said Monday The patrol was hit with gunfire by unknown assailants at 12:30 am Monday in the al-Umal area of Baqouba, said police Lt. Ziyad Tareq. Seven of the wounded were policemen and the other two were civilians, he said. "We were fired at from all sides," said Tareq, who sustained light injuries in the attack. "The bullets penetrated some houses in this poor region," he added. The police opened fire on the gunmen, who fled the area, he said.
