Assailants ambushed a police patrol in northwestern Pakistan early Monday, killing one officer and wounding three others, an official said. The police were hit by gunfire as they patrolled in a pickup truck before dawn near the city of Bannu, in the North West Frontier Province, area police chief Dar Ali Khattak said. One of the officers was struck in the head by a bullet and died at the scene, Khattak said. Three other policemen were lightly wounded, the Associated Press reported.
