Secretary General of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) Dr. Ziad bin Hamza Abu-Ghararah said that the PERSGA is looking with great interest in discussing the issue of the Safir tanker in the Security Council next Wednesday and its results and decisions that we hope to meet the size of this catastrophe and unprecedented damage in the expected humanitarian, environmental and economic aspects in case of tanker leaking. The Secretary General affirmed the importance of the international community to realize the size of the expected global environmental damage of the Red Sea environment in case the tanker to leak more than one million oil barrels. Dr. Abu-Ghararah called on the Security Council to take decisive decisions, to avoid the occurrence of a disaster, that ensure facilitating the UN experts' implementation of technical evaluation and maintenance required for the tanker systems, and ending with the complete and safe unloading of the tanker, which ensures that such disastrous conditions will not happen in the future.
