Pakistan expressed satisfaction Saturday with talks between President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and India's new leader, and said their meeting in New York had revived hopes for a solution to the dispute over Kashmir. The two leaders "rekindled the hope for a negotiated settlement of the Kashmir dispute and thus given a fresh lifeline to the whole dialogue process," Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan said. On the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly on Friday, Musharraf met with India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the first time since Singh took power in May. The leaders vowed to work together to "restore normalcy and cooperation" between their countries and seek a solution to all outstanding bilateral issues, including Kashmir. Singh heralded the talks as "a new beginning."
