The Arab League Council affirmed the principle of freedom of maritime navigation in international waters according to the established rules in international law and the conventions of the law of the sea. In a resolution issued at the end of their 153rd regular session, the council demanded to guarantee the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Arabian Gulf, the Sea of Oman and the Red Sea and secure the energy supply lines. The council condemned all actions targeting the security and safety of navigation, marine installations, energy supplies, oil pipelines, oil installations in the Arabian Gulf and other waterways, as they threaten the security of Arab countries, undermine Arab national security and harm international security and peace. The council condemned the attacks that targeted oil tankers and commercial ships in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. The council condemned the terrorist attacks carried out by the terrorist Houthi militias on May 14, 2019 with booby-trapped drones at two oil pumping stations in the cities of Dawadmi and Afif in Saudi Arabia, which targeted international oil supplies. The council condemned the terrorist attack of September 14, 2019 on Aramco's oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais in Saudi Arabia using drones and cruise missiles, which is a dangerous escalation aimed at destabilizing the Kingdom and the region and threatening global energy supplies and the global economy. The council condemned the Houthi terrorist militia's actions on 18 November 2019 of the detention of three ships on the Red Sea coast, one of which belonged to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and called on them to refrain from such practices that threaten the security and freedom of navigation. The Council expressed solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the face of practices and attacks that aimed at undermining the security of navigation corridors and energy supplies in the Arabian Gulf region. The council welcomed the announcement of the establishment of the Council of Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden on January 6, 2020.
