French police arrested two suspected members of Basque separatist group ETA in southwest France on Saturday, the Spanish interior ministry said. One of the suspected members of the group, which has killed almost 850 people in its campaign for independence, was carrying a gun and the pair tried to burn an address book as they were seized in Montauban near the Spanish border, the ministry said. Police also confiscated kit that could have been used to steal cars. French and Spanish police have been stepping up cooperation over the last few years against ETA -- which started operating in 1968 -- arresting dozens of suspects on both sides of the Pyrenees.
