Militants fired rockets Friday at Pakistan military base in a tense tribal region where security forces have recently fought suspected Muslim insurgents, officials said. The two rockets missed the base in South Waziristan's main town of Wana, near the Afghan border, and no injuries were reported, a military official said on condition of anonymity. The Associated Press quoted an intelligence official in Wana as saying that soldiers at the base retaliated with mortars and machine guns. It was not known if the attackers suffered any casualties. The official, who asked not to be named, said security forces defused another rocket near the base. Also Friday, a man and his 4-year-old daughter were injured when a mortar round hit their home in Dhog village outside Wana. It was not clear who fired the round.
