AL Foreign Ministers' Council Call on UNSC to Stop Turkish Aggression, on Syria

The Council of Arab League (AL), held, at the level of foreign minister, called here today on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to take the necessary measures to stop the ongoing Turkish aggression on Syria, and withdraw from Syrian territories, immediately, and work to prevent Turkey from obtaining any military or information support, to help in this aggression, expressing their condemnation of the aggression on the territory on Syria, as it is a clear violation of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and Security Council resolutions and calling for maintaining the unity and independence of Syria.
The council, on its concluding decision, considered working of its emergency meeting, headed by Iraq, the Turkish aggression a direct threat to Arab national security and international peace and security, stressing that every Syrian effort to confront such aggression and defend Syrian territory, an application of the inherent right of the principle of legitimate self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.
Turkey shall stop the aggression, with an immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all Syrian territories, stressing that this aggression against Syria represents the latest episode of Turkish interventions and repeatedly unacceptable attacks, on the sovereignty of member states of the Arab League, the statement announced.
AL ministerial council, unequivocally, rejected any Turkish attempt and all other attempts targeting to impose demographic changes, in Syria, through the use of force, within the so-called "buffer zone", as this constitutes a violation of the international law, which the international community must confront and prevent, and poses a threat to Syria's territorial integrity, independence and social fabric, as well as the need to respect international law.
The council, hold Turkey, fully responsible for any repercussions of its aggression, resulting in the spread of terrorism or the return of terrorist organizations - including the terrorist organization Daesh (ISIS), to their activities, in the region, calling on the Security Council to take all necessary measures, immediately, to ensure that Turkey shall take responsibility for this, and to prevent foreign terrorist fighters from infiltrating or rebuilding their capabilities, inside Syria, which would undermine victories achieved on terrorism and re-threaten regional and international security.
It reaffirmed the unity and independence of Syria and stressed the importance of the immediate commencement of political negotiations, under the auspices of the United Nations, especially within the framework of the constitutional committee, which was announced recently, to implement the elements contained in the Security Council Resolution No. 2254 and reach a political settlement to the Syrian crisis and end the suffering the Syrians.
There is no military solution to the crisis, the final communique stated, stressing the need to adopt the political path as a single way to settle it and resolve all its repercussions and to ensure compliance with international law, and achieve the security of Syria, of its neighborhood and the countries of the region, and lead to the departure of all foreign forces from Syria and allowing Syria to regain its role in the joint Arab action system, the statement emphasized, it elaborated.
The council instructed the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Abul Gheit to communicate with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to convey the content of the council's resolution and to circulate it to the members of the United Nations as an official document, and to consider arranging a visit of an open-member Arab ministerial delegation to the Security Council, to follow up the matter and work to stop the Turkish aggression, on the Syrian territory and to consider diplomatic, economic, investment, cultural and tourism measures regarding military cooperation, to counter Turkish aggression.
AL council decided to entrust the Arab Group in New York to discuss ways to address the Turkish aggression, within various United Nations organs, especially the Security Council, and to submit its recommendations to the council of the League of Arab States, in this regard, as soon as possible, and the formation of an Arab committee to follow up "Turkish interventions in the Arab countries", too.
The council urged the secretary-general to follow up the implementation of the resolution and to report to it, at its next regular session, in coordination with the member states.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Member of the Cabinet Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, led the Kingdom's delegation to the emergency meeting of the Arab League council, held, at foreign minister level, to discuss the Turkish aggression against Syria, at the request of Egypt.
He also took part, in the consultative meeting of the heads of delegations of Egypt, Iraq, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, held, at Tahrir Palace, to discuss the Turkish aggression on Syria.
