German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has extended an invitation to Iraqi interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi to visit Berlin, which the leader has excepted, the German government said Saturday. A date has not yet been set for the visit, a government spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity. Allawi told "Der Spiegel" newsweekly that he expected to talk with Schroeder _ who opposed the war on Iraq _ about getting help rebuilding the country, including forgiving Iraqi debts. Germany now trains Iraqi police officers in the United Arab Emirates, and is considering extending training to military personnel. Interim Iraqi President ghazi al-Yawer is already expected to make a visit to Berlin on Sept. 9, during a European trip.
