The eighth annual Youth Forum of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) began its activities here Tuesday evening in Abha. The eight-day event is organized by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY). WAMY's Secretary-General Dr. Saleh Al-Wohaibi said in a statement yesterday that the forum sought to educate the youth and give representation of GCC youth who are actively involved in development of their countries. The forum also helps protect the youth against extremism and violence. More than 300 students from universities in the six GCC states are taking part in the forum, which coincides with Abha's summer tourism festival. The statement said that over eight days, the highlights would include recreational, educational, sports, social and cultural activities as well as the Holy Qur'an contests. There will also be training courses and seminars on successful self-management, teamwork, banking and sports. This is in addition to field visits to Asir and an exhibition which focuses on WAMY's activities. The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
