China and Pakistan have decided to hold anti-terrorism military exercise on regular basis, officials said. The first such exercise held between the two armed forces on August 3-6 in China proved very successful in improving their counter-terrorism capabilities, officials said. They added that the second such exercise would be held in Pakistan next year during the same period. The exercise will give boost to bilateral cooperation in non-traditional security field and help maintain security and stability in the region, officials said. More than 200 Chinese and Pakistani elite troops participated in their first joint exercise named "Friendship 2004," in Taxkorgan, Northwest China's Uygur Autonomous Region. The live-fire drill, on the Pamirs at an altitude of 4,000 meters, involved encirclement, assault and mop-up practices achieved great success, officials said. They said the exercise proved the Pakistan troops have rich experience in information collection and organizing combat operations.
