Seven primary school students and a woman were injured in a hit-and-run involving a car in Melbourne on Friday. The incident took place when the group of children was crossing a road intersection at Pakenham just after school, dpa quoted police as saying. The woman, who is in her 30s, has been taken to local Alfred Hospital, where she is in serious condition, Ambulance Victoria said. All seven schoolchildren are also being treated for injuries, but they are all in stable condition, the paramedics said. The male driver fled on foot before the police arrived, abandoning his car at the scene. He is at large. "Police are currently searching for the driver who left the scene on foot," Victoria Police said in a statement.
