The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the terrorist attack by a terrorist group on a Malian military barracks in the east of Timbuktu, on Tuesday 18 April 2017, killing 5 soldiers and injuring scores. It also condemned the bombing of the United Nation peacekeeping force's trucks in Tessalit, northeast Mali in which 3 soldiers were injured. The Secretary General of the OIC, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured quick recovery. He also renewed his support for the Government of Mali in standing against the enemies of Islam and stressed the need to reject the violence and hatred agenda. Dr. Al-Othaimeen called on the relevant authorities in the Government of Mali to apprehend the criminals and bring them to justice. He affirmed the commitment of the OIC to continue to play its role fully as a member of international mediation group to ensure peace and reconciliation in the Republic of Mali.
