The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated against a military base on the border between Mali and Burkina Faso, in which eleven soldiers were killed and four injured, on Sunday, 5 March 2017. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, expressed his condolences to the government of Mali and to the bereaved families, wishing the injured prompt recovery. The OIC Secretary General described this act as unjustified and urged the local authorities to put in every possible effort to have the perpetrators arrested and brought to justice. Whilst calling on the concerned authorities in the Sahel States to adhere to full vigilance and to do their utmost to eradicate the phenomenon of terrorism, Dr. Al-Othaimeen reiterated the OIC's full support for the Republic of Mali and the frontline states in the region, to face up to this serious affliction and to achieve and promote security, peace and sustainable development.
