At least 10 people, including 4 children, were confirmed dead on Saturday after a garbage dump collapsed in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo. Twenty people were also injured and 50 houses were destroyed in the Friday incident in the suburb of Meethotamulla, police said. A search operation continued overnight for the missing amongst damaged houses close to the site. The army, backed by the police, are continuing to search Saturday. The Sri Lanka Air Force were also forced to use a helicopter to fight a blaze that broke out after the area collapsed, local newspaper Daily Mirror reported. The waste site, which is used to store rubbish from the capital, had previously been criticized as being a danger to local residents.
