Young locals by the rainwater lake in the Jeddah district of Al-Ajaweed on Sunday. Residents in the southern area of the city say their continued complaints over stagnant water and the threat of mosquitoes posed by the site have fallen on deaf ears. The three-meter-deep water is still there two months after it was first formed by the rains, and the threat is exacerbated by nearby wasteland used as a dumping ground for garbage. An official from the company awaiting mayoralty approval to remove the waste to Bariman said the situation had been under observation for over a year, but that the amount of rubbish was continuing to pile up in a zone that has houses and schools in its proximity.
