Scientific consultations of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) to stop the Red Palm Weevil have concluded in the Italian capital, Rome. Upon an initiative from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the meeting was held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) during which Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdurrahman Al-Fadhli stressed the Kingdom's awareness of the dangers of palm weevil and its efforts to combat it. He further said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sought to concentrate efforts to establish the center of palms and dates in Ahsa to pay attention and care of the palm trees, and the development of the national program to control red palm weevil, explaining that the program has achieved positive results in some areas and work is underway in other areas to contain and control the weevil.
