The UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution on Saturday supporting the ceasefire in Syria as well as peace talks to end the country's civil war which lasted for nearly six years. Under the Russian-proposed resolution humanitarian workers are to receive quick and secure access to populations in the country desperate for aid. Before that, Moscow and Ankara are planning to host talks in January in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, between the representatives of the Syrian opposition and the government. UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, intends to bring together representatives of the warring parties for talks in Geneva after February 8.
