Syrian regime forces violate international law, Security Council resolution, Al-Jubeir confirms
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 02 - 05 - 2016

Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir condemned violations committed by the Syrian regime forces and its allies in contravention of the international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the indiscriminate shelling of civilian hospitals and the killing of innocent people which is rejected by the international community.
Al-Jubeir made the remarks in press statements in Geneva today following his meetings with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
Al-Jubeir noted that he called on the parties to restore the cease-fire, allow the access of humanitarian aid, resume the negotiations based on the statement of "Geneva 1," and establish a transitional authority to run affairs of the country and end with holding elections and a new future in Syria where no place for Bashar al-Assad.
The Foreign Minister warned of the danger of the situations in Syria, pointing out that unless the resumption of the ceasefire and the political process, the situation will deteriorate further and there will be chaos and the killing and destruction will continue with resulting risks to Syria and the region.
Al-Jubeir explained that he discussed with John Kerry these ideas, the importance of exerting efforts to resume negotiations and the need for Bashar al-Assad to adhere to the will of the international community and the Security Council's resolutions.
He said that if change did not come through a political process, then it will come through arms because the Syrian people will not accept to be led by a person who caused the death of 400,000 people and displacement of 12 million citizens, noting that there are consultations among the parties interested in Syria to try to calm the situation, renew the ceasefire and bring in humanitarian aid.
