The Council of Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water has approved the winners of its 7th session based on the recommendations of the selection's committees and arbitrators for each of the innovation award and four specialized prizes for creativity in various areas of water. The one million Innovation Award was equally won by two teams from the United States of America: the first consists of Dr. Rita Colwell of the University of Maryland at College Park, United States of America, and Dr. Shafiqul Islam from Tufts University, United States of America, where this team has developed and tested a model for extracting information on Chlorophyll through satellite data to determine the expected spread of cholera up to six months before it happens. The other half of the prize was won by Dr. Peter J. Webster of Georgia Institute of Technology, United States of America for its excellence in climate interactions in the oceans and their impact on monsoons, which are useful in early expectation of seasonal flooding a week or two weeks before they happen, helping to mitigate the disastrous effects of the floods in the coastal areas of high dense population. --More
