President of the Republic of South Africa Jacob Zuma and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Military Industries Corporation, opened the projectiles factory at the Military Industries Corporation today in Al-Kharj. During the event, they were briefed on the factory and toured its departments. The complex includes nine industrial buildings, each building was allocated to a specific productivity (such as processing, packaging, assembly and filling, destructive testing and non destructive testing, heat treatments and surface treatments. It is an industrial complex to produce military projectiles ranging from the shells of medium caliber such as mortar rounds (60 mm, 81 mm 120 mm), artillery shells of (105 mm and 155 mm) caliber and heavy shells such as aircraft bombs of weights of 500 pounds and up to 2,000 pounds. The head of the Military Industries Corporation Mohammad Almadhi made a statement during the event in which he said that the corporation managed to produce many different military products. He noted that factory opened today was created with a license and help in construction by the company (Rheinmetall Denel) for ammunition of South Africa at a cost of approximately ($ 240 million) to produce three hundred artillery shells or six hundred mortar projectiles a day, adding that this plant will be operated by one hundred and thirty engineers and operators.
