The warring parties in Yemen have agreed to a cease-fire at midnight on April 10 ahead of a new round of peace talks starting April 18 in Kuwait, the U.N. envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed announced Wednesday. In a press conference in New York, the U.N. envoy said that he had contacts with Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the other party who was represented by Houthis and former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, adding that the UN resolution No. 2216 will be one of the pillars of the coming negotiations. Ould Cheikh Ahmed added that the cessation of hostilities in Yemen will include all kinds of fighting and the United Nations will have a mechanism to verify this and called on all parties to refrain from any action that would increase tension. He warned that the coming negotiations may be the last chance to end the war in Yemen, saying that the war in Yemen must be brought to an end, and before it does irreparable damage.
