United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief Heiner Bielefeldt stressed that all religious minorities in Iran are exposed to persecution and human rights violations. During the seminar held by the Iranian minorities on the sidelines of the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Bielefeldt said that some minorities in Iran, including Sunni Muslims and Christians, are living in burrows or otherwise, they will be exposed to different kinds of harassment and threats. He added that other minorities in Iran are exposed to murder and imprisonment, they are also tried in fabricated trials, noting that Iranian authorities are conducting mass arrests against minorities, saying that this is not new to the Iranian dictatorial regime that since the beginning, raised the slogan of Shiite Islam. The UN Special Rapporteur described justice in Iran as grotesque, saying that the Iranian constitution does not grant religious minorities any rights. He explained that there is no guarantee for freedom of religion and beliefs in Iran, and that this goes for everyone, not just minorities, but in case of minorities, the persecution is more dangerous because it may amount to murder.
