Barcelona defeated River Plate 3-0 on Sunday to win the Club World Cup a record third time. Lionel Messi returned from an illness to open the scoring in the 36th minute and Luis Suarez added two goals in the 49th and 68th to his semi-final hat-trick for the final scoreline. The third Barca attacking star Neymar, back from injury, set up the first and third goal against the South American champions from Buenos Aires. European champions Barcelona won the tournament in its current form in 2009 and 2011 and now first club to win it three times, moving ahead of Brazil's Corinthians who lifted the trophy in 2000 and 2012. It was also Barca's fifth title of the year, following the Spanish league, Spanish cup, Champions League and European Super Cup, dpa reported.
